Castlebrooke Overture (Gr. 2)
is a symphonic overture which is dedicated to William (Bill) Maupin,
dedicated music educator and friend whom Claude grew up with and
taught with in Chillicothe, MO. This well scored work involves contrasting
high woodwind parts with the brass choir. The middle section of
the work displays thoughtful development and is ideal for study
and program planning. The mallet parts strengthen important thematic
lines. The use of a few 3/8 measures along with other meter changes
will challenge the entire band. This piece works well with small
and large bands, due to its creative scoring.
